A good number of drivers for long suspected that synthetic oil is bad for their vehicles. The circumstance is however quickly changing on account many campaigns that are meant to increase awareness on benefits that comes when they buy synthetic oil rather than natural ones. In summary, this relatively new oil targets to increase engine life and save on vehicle maintenance cost.

Military jets usually perform at high speed in very extreme conditions. As such, all their components are made to adapt and facilitate this. Their engine is not an exception. What you might not know yet is that they use synthetic oil as opposed to the natural ones. There are many reasons for this, but before discussing them, it is important to understand how the two are different.

Regular oil is produced from petroleum products pumped from underneath the earth surface. The petroleum which is the raw material is made from fossil fuels made of decomposed organic materials that have been buried for millions of years under high pressure and temperature. The dark fluid is then processed ones on the surface after which different products are sold. At the stage of processing, there consistency of molecular structure is compromised resulting to a very big failure.

There is difference when it comes to synthetic oil as they are man-made. Selected chemical compounds from components that are petroleum based and not naturally available are used. As such, there is flexibility in control of molecular structure. This make them long lasting and only become unfit after a distance of 10, 000 to 12,000 miles which is up to four times longer than 3,000 miles which is the limit for the natural oils.

The other major advantage of using this option is the great diversity it offers. Since the manufactures have great control on the molecular structure, they are able to come up with oils that are able to meet the specific requirements of given vehicles. An older car for instance works better with oils that offer more viscosity. New cars are better off with a man-made oil that best protects the moving parts of the engine.

These are not by any means the only profits given that this decision helps spare cash. Buying man-made oil requires more cash as compared to natural ones. The emphasis is however on the benefits you stand to gain on the long run. With closer look, you discover that it is in fact the cheaper alternative. These include the general increase in the engine life, reduced costs associated with visiting garage for servicing (less cost of buying filters, changing oil and labor costs) and general smooth engine running.

Why are they favored for plane motors? Straightforward, their working condition needs extraordinary ointments. These necessities are met by man-made oil which could be altered as the situation demands. This explains why this lubricant has earned respect in among aeronautical engineers.

The story is not different for motor vehicle engine. With all these superior performance qualities, it makes a lot of sense to switch to the safer alternative that turns out to be cheaper in long run. The advantages could be summed up as better viscosity, better wear control, better deposit control and better temperature fluidity all leading to overall reduced cost.
