US Federal Contractor Registration has announced their launch of their new government contracting focused web design division GovKinex. The firm has already helped several contractors establish a viable web presence at a fraction of the cost and time demanded by traditional web development services. The service includes registration of a domain, creation of a 7 page site in the proper government format, hosting and updates for one year, inclusion in the official government small business search engine, and email bid notification. The package also covers full registration required for federal contracting, including Dun & Bradstreet, CCR registration, ORCA filing, and the FEMA Vendor Profile.

Over $110 Billion has already been awarded to vendors nationwide during the 2012 fiscal year and nearly half the contracts have been awarded to small businesses, according to data pulled from USASpending. The United States Government continues to be the world's largest purchaser of goods and services. In FY2011, over $535 Billion was spent on contracts alone; another $550 Billion was awarded in federal grants.

The Small Business Administration highly recommends companies aggressively market to federal buyers, especially if they are new to government contracting or are considered a small business. It is estimated that businesses on average invest 20 months and $100,000 marketing to government agencies before they win their first contract. A key component of this marketing strategy is a branded, government-accessible website with an overview of your products and services.

BIA/Kelsey conducted a study last year which found that 97% of all consumers researched products and services online before making a purchase. The same can be said of contracting officers who, in many cases, are required by federal regulations to research vendors prior to awarding a contract.

Many contractors' downfall comes after they finish their CCR registration but fail to follow through. "Marketing is absolutely essential for small businesses to succeed in government contracting," says Eric Knellinger, president of US Federal Contractor Registration. "Even though there are over 620,000 businesses currently registered in CCR with hundreds more registering every month, contracts seem to be awarded to the same vendors over and over again. Why? Because the businesses winning those contracts took the time to build their brand and develop a relationship with those purchasing officers."

Although many small businesses assume they can't compete with big companies or fulfill the government's needs, the reality is that over $92 Billion in contracts were awarded to small businesses during the 2011 fiscal year according to USASpending. Small businesses can give themselves a further leg up by establishing their brand online and marketing aggressively to government buyers.
