IT Resources and Cloud Computer 6 Reasons to Move Your Business IT Resources

If you've been looking for a faster, more efficient solution for your company's IT resources, you've probably come across the term "cloud computing." Cloud services and virtualization reduce the real estate needed to house large servers, reduce energy costs, reduce staff hours and speed up slower internal and external applications. Uprooting current computer network logic flow and hardware equipment is a scary proposal for most IT managers, but the cloud also has a streamlined process for moving your resources. Here are several reasons you should move to the virtualized cloud.

Real Estate

Large areas of floor space are occupied by server racks. In addition, certain requirements for your server room is necessary to sustain it, not necessary for cloud computing. For instance, the secure server room must be under temperature control and cooled. Physically it should not be close to windows or doors that lack security. These issues are eliminated with cloud services and virtual servers. A few pieces of server equipment are needed still but one can significantly reduce the overall footprint.

Energy Fees

Server rooms are always a huge chunk of company energy costs. You need A/C units running at all times and the energy to run the servers 24 hours a day. Cloud companies use energy-saving techniques that reduce power consumption. These savings are then passed to you. You take on the costs of leasing servers, but the cost savings outweigh the energy costs you pay each month for your business.

Technology Team

You need your network engineers and support personnel to be available at all times in case a server crashes. Crashed servers cost you thousands of dollars in support salaries and equipment costs. Cloud computing lets you avoid these costs by leaving support to the cloud hosting company. With cloud services, the hosting company replaces any faulty hardware and manages up-time for the servers.

Backup and Storage Solution

Reduction of backup hardware is another item that goes away once a company moves to cloud computing. Expensive hard drives are normally needed frequently with larger data storage but with cloud services the hosting company handles the cost as part of the monthly fee. The backup process is also much faster in a cloud service solution as compared to tape backups which are much slower.

Information Security

Security is an expensive plan to have, but it's even more costly if you don't have the right security. Cloud hosts offer better security than most small businesses can afford. Even your backups are secured, so you don't have to worry about hackers gaining access to all of your data.

Lightweight Technology Budgets

Cloud service costs are pay-as-you-grow so a company can start small and increase in size as their needs dictate. No longer is expensive equipment needed even if you don't use it. As your environment needs increase the resources can be scaled in response. You can also reduce when you need less, something you can never do if you own your own equipment.

Altering the technology environment can be a nervous proposition for some IT Managers but the reduction of costs dictates consideration. The reduction of costs associated with personnel and power alone suggest one should seriously consider cloud services. Ask the right questions and read the contract carefully.
