Facebook is king of social. At least it has seemed that way for quite a while now. But how close to reality is that perception? Not as close as you think, at least not for e-commerce businesses that actually want to make sales and turn a profit from their advertising.

This is one of the easiest ways to get traffic to a Web 2.0 property, and it has definitely helped e-commerce revenue. Here are a couple reasons why Pinterest has increased as much as 67% of all e-commerce revenue across the web, making it one of the most viable ways to quickly generate traffic to products that are selling.

According to Piqora, which is a company that looks at analytics online, says that e-commerce revenue for the first six months of the year had increased a whopping 67%. After looking at a variety of different data providers, including information from Google analytics, they were actually able to discern how much revenue every pin provided for different types of products. For instance, when looking at 100% as a total, 90% of the pins that led to sales on the Web had to do with retail brands, home decor brands and apparel brands.

If you think about it, when someone is sharing their favorite shoes with someone, or a dress that they like, they are going to share it with people that also wear dresses and shoes. This means that the demographic was primarily female in regard to who is sharing these types of pins. This is viable information that has shown people that Pinterest is a valuable asset for making money online.

But the average order from Pinterest isn't just bigger than Facebook, it's bigger than Google, Amazon, Yahoo, Bing, Vimeo, Twitter and You Tube! As an interesting side note, Pinterest pins with prices on them, get 36% MORE likes! Weird, right? Think of Pinterest as a way for people to window shop what others recommend. Pinterest is set up for shoppers and buyers. Social sites like Twitter and Facebook are set up for people to be, well, social! Pinterest shopping is helping to fuel the 67% increase in E-Commerce revenue. Other social media sites better watch out!

Whether you are looking at the information provided by Google analytics, or one of the many other data analyzing services on the web, you will quickly see how valuable pictures are in regard to products that are sold by e-commerce sites. Almost 50% of the images that were shared that led to this large spike in e-commerce sales was sharing different types of clothing from a number of different brands. Home-improvement images were also shared, specifically those related to home decor. The point is that pictures, just like videos, are very easy to share if you have the proper platform to do so. This is why Pinterest was so successful at boosting e-commerce sales, and this same technology can help you and your business as well.
